I LOVE MY SMILE is a Pretoria-based Dentistry that specializes in dental treatments that help to keep your teeth white and healthy. They create smiles by taking pride in their services and quality delivery. Their objective is to complete work of the highest standard to the total satisfaction of their clients. Our young aspiring learners were given the opportunity to visit the facility and they were given first-hand experience of what it takes to become professional Dentists in the future.
Our learners were hosted by Mrs. Belinda
van der Merwe, the Practice Manager, as she took our learners on an awesome
tour around their beautiful dental facility. The tour began at the x-ray room with Ms. Carmi, the assistant in the Dental lab, explaining to the learners how advanced their technology is.
She explained that their machines can detect even the smallest dental issues,
that their x-ray machines help them to see the dental bone structure of any
patient and it enables them to be able to conclude how they can assist each
of their prospective clients.
The tour continued as they visited the lab where Mrs. Jackie
Minaar, the Dental Technician, was sculpturing a denture for one of their prospective clients.
You can tell by her attention to detail, that it comes with experience, qualification and
passion for her work.
Mrs. Belinda was super awesome by
creating a play-practice session for the learners, whereby, they pretended to
be professional Dentists practicing on one another. They each took turns checking
each other’s teeth, spraying water, and using the suction pipe. At the end of
the tour, there was an open question session that Mrs. Belinda availed herself
to providing the learners with all the information they needed to prepare themselves
for the industry. Mrs. Belinda shared some incitive words of inspiration to the
learners as quoted below: “You need to love what you do, otherwise why are you
pursuing it”. The smile and tears in the eyes of our clients are most rewarding".
This day exceeded the expectations of the
learners, the teacher and myself as a Mentor. It was a well-organized,
impressive, accommodative and informative day. The learners were happy with the
experience and it pleases me to see their smiles each day with compliments about their memories of the career day experience, that they will continue to cherish
for life.
Below are the dreams of our learners, each telling us why they chose to pursue Dentistry as a career.
Maremo Keetso is a young ambitious learner who has lived her life being discouraged from becoming a Dentist. She has been told that being a Dentist is not amusing and it has no financial stability, but that has never stopped Maremo from wanting to pursue the career as she has always been fond of it. Her interest grew to such a point that she is able to acknowledge the dental problems that her family and friends are having. She is so inquisitive, that she would always be interested in looking at their teeth. However, due to financial obligations, they are not able to get them fixed. This empowers Maremo daily to embark on a mission of pursuing this profession so that she can be able to bring back the smiles of her loved ones.
Pricilla Akinkuowo is more happier and confident about her career choice after visiting I LOVE MY SMILE Dentistry. She believes that she can be able to assist kids with their dental problems and bring back their smiles. Owam Khanya wants to become a professional Dentist as she sees the need in helping others with their dental problems. She is passionate about helping others and creating a positive impact in their lives. Thank you to the team of I Love My Smile for this awesome opportunity you have provided for our young ones.
